Some projects begin with a clear plan. Others, like the Lido Spa, start as a dream — a quiet, persistent vision that evolves over time, shaped as much by place as by imagination.
For years, I had envisioned adding a sauna to the Pointhouse. At first, it was a sauna cave nestled into the rocks. Later, a barrel sauna tucked between the trees. But as time passed and the landscape changed — especially in response to climate shifts and the loss of mature trees — the idea shifted too. What finally emerged was something even more meaningful: a custom cedar sanctuary that reflects both the spirit of the Pointhouse and the resilience of the land itself.
The process became a dialogue with nature. As trees came down, new light filtered in. As the terrain shifted, new pathways opened. The spa grew organically, adapting to the land as the land adapted in turn — and what began as a simple sauna slowly evolved into a landscape spa: a place of renewal, shaped by and in harmony with the natural environment.
If you’ve been following the journey on our social channels, you’ll know this has been a labour of love — and we’re thrilled to share that we’re finally ticking off the last details. The finishing touches are going in, the gardens are settling, and we’ve already welcomed a few willing beta testers (a.k.a. guinea pigs!) to try out the facilities and share their impressions. Their feedback has been deeply appreciated — and affirming.
We’ve also just launched a dedicated Lido Spa page on the website, where you can find all the details on how to book, what to expect, and our spa policies.
Why Lido?
Choosing the name Lido felt like the perfect fit for this unique new space. The word has historical roots in the Venetian island of Lido, once a famed destination for elegant seaside leisure. Over the years, lido has come to represent stylish, restorative waterfront escapes — much like what we’ve created here.
It also calls to mind the lido deck on a cruise ship — the open-air hub where guests gather to relax, bask in the sun, and take in panoramic sea views. In many ways, that captures the essence of the Pointhouse itself. Our guests often describe their stay as feeling like a boutique cruise experience: immersed in luxury, surrounded by nature, and anchored in place.
The Lido Spa brings this idea full circle. It’s a luxurious, nature-immersed refuge where you can move through heat, cold, and rest — and feel both grounded and gently transported by the rhythm of the coast.
A Spa Rooted in the Landscape
As a landscape spa, the Lido is designed to work with the land, not just sit on top of it. This approach prioritizes open-air wellness, multisensory experience, and deep integration with the surrounding environment.
At the Pointhouse, this comes to life through:
-
Outdoor hot and cold pools nestled along the water’s edge
-
A handcrafted cedar sauna pavilion designed for deep warmth and reflection
-
Rest areas inspired by Nordic spa traditions and Japanese garden principles
-
Meandering pathways that connect the elements in a peaceful, meditative circuit
The Lido Spa is not a traditional place to “get a treatment” — it’s a place to truly pause, breathe deeply, and reconnect with yourself and the natural world.
We’re so excited to finally share the Lido Spa with you. Thank you for following the journey — from dream to sanctuary. We look forward to welcoming you soon for your own restorative escape.
