As we continue to delve into the achievements of the past year, we are particularly proud of the strides we’ve made in our sustainability journey. Pointhouse Suites has always been committed to minimizing our environmental footprint, and 2023 marked a significant chapter in our ongoing commitment to responsible hospitality. Here’s a detailed glimpse into our sustainability initiatives, with a focus on energy reduction, water conservation, and our switch to renewable natural gas (NG).
In 2023 we were able to reduce our average overall energy consumption by 10% percent over the previous year by closely monitoring and optimizing energy usage without compromising the comfort and luxury our guests expect. Some of the stats may have been a reflection of slightly lower occupancy levels as well as less dramatic temperature fluctuations.
With multi-year drought conditions persisting last summer on the Sunshine Coast water conservation is of critical importance. We have stepped up measures to minimize water usage across the property including guest education, updated efficient irrigation systems and rainwater harvesting containers. Our water consumption dropped by a further 21 % over last year. The biggest project was a complete re-landscaping of both the Pointhouse and Annex gardens for more resilient and drought tolerant shrubs, trees, and plants. We are excited for spring and a renewed, healthier landscape.
While almost 90% of Pointhouse Suites energy sources are renewable, our Annex guesthouse uses natural gas for a small portion of its energy. By transitioning to renewable NG early in 2023, we have significantly reduced our carbon emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change. This transition aligns with our broader goal of utilizing sustainable energy sources without compromising the exceptional experience our guests have come to expect.
