Getting to the Pointhouse is part of the adventure.

Although part of the British Columbia’s mainland lying just northwest of Vancouver, access to the Sunshine Coast is exclusively by air or water due to the mountainous terrain.

A scenic ferry ride or an equally scenic float plane or fixed-wing flight separates the laid back attitudes of “Coasters” from the faster pace of city life on the other side of the water.

Perched on coastal bluffs or cradled on a rocky point jutting into Sargeant Bay, Pointhouse Suites are destinations on their own as well as great bases for day trips both north and south due to their central mid coast location.

If you have more time to explore, include us in a circle tour encompassing Vancouver Island, Whistler or other regions in BC’s interior. Surrounded by ocean, picturesque islets, and a backdrop of mature West Coast forest, all accommodations enjoy magnificent views and access to the water.

By Boat

With beautiful scenery, stunning marine parks, and well-spaced marine facilities for provisioning/fuel, the Sunshine Coast has become a popular cruising ground. Getting here by private motor or sailing yacht adds to the adventure.

Sargeant Bay is also known as Norwest Bay due to it’s orientation. GPS coordinates: N49°28.2’ ‘W123°51.0″. The bay lies west of Reception Point and is an idyllic anchorage when the weather cooperates, ie northwesterly. We have one year round mooring buoys, one capable of handling boats up to 61 ft in length.  A 30 ft seasonal float and dock (May to Sept) is also available for smaller crafts or dinghies with the same caveats about the weather. No protection from S, SE or E winds.

Transient moorage is available at Secret Cove Marina or Porpoise Bay Harbour on the Sechelt Inlet. Transfers from either spot to the Pointhouse Suites are about 15 minutes by car/taxi.

By Bike

Getting here by pedal power is another way to appreciate the journey. We have facilities for bicycles including a bike wash, secure storage, outlets for e-bike charging, route maps, contacts for local guides, links for bike rentals and contacts for shuttles to the Coast Gravity Park or trailheads along the Suncoaster Trail, the continuation of the Sunshine Coast Trail on the upper coast.

Air Services

If flying is your preferred means of transportation, a float plane from Vancouver or Vancouver Island can have you on the coast in under 30 minutes, from Seattle in 90 minutes. Privately chartered float planes from Whistler or other terminals can land directly in Sargeant Bay, weather permitting. Regular air service to the Sechelt Airport is also available in the busy season.

Prime Rentals can have a car waiting for you wherever you land, then whisk you off for the paperwork before sending you on your way. Turo, a car sharing platform like AirBnB, also has a vehicle located on coast that you can book while you’re here. There are also shuttles and other transportation options such as Sunshine Coast Taxi or our new ride hailing service, Coastal Rides.
